Tom Martin holds a doctorate from Oxford University, where he researched perception and understanding among wooden boat builders on the American East Coast. Tom is interested in sensory ethnography, studies in perception, and other anthropological theories and methods that connect mind, body, and socio-material world; he currently teaches courses on these subjects at the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Warren Wilson MA in Critical Craft Studies. His book is titled “Craft Learning as Perceptual Transformation” (Palgrave Macmillan 2021).
