Hiatus: A letter from the editors

Dilettante Army is on hiatus due to Covid-19 and will not be publishing a summer issue

In the last month, you have likely received many emails from companies and publications telling you how they are responding to the Covid-19 crisis. At Dilettante Army, we would like to tell you what we are doing: nothing.

We the editors feel that while it would impossible to formulate an issue that ignores this crisis, any response conceived in this interregnum would be necessarily inadequate and untimely, and we are not in the business of hot takes. We want to use this time to wait, to think, and to act in solidarity with our fellow creatures.

The Covid-19 crisis is not one on which artists and writers have a special lens. This is not about us. Or rather this is about us as like everyone else—humans with vulnerable bodies and precarious economic situations—but not about us in any professional capacity. We want to resist the urge to center our voices.

Our lives, like so many, have been upended by this, and we are working to understand a new reality and fight for a better world. We hope you’ll excuse our brief absence, and we look forward to publishing our next issue in Fall 2020.

In the meantime, please accept our heartfelt wishes for your safety and wellness.
